Fees & Payment
(Below are details regarding counseling services; psychological evaluations are discussed here.)
The initial telephone screening/consultation is free. If we decide to continue and meet for a face-to-face interview and evaluation I will bill you $175 payable at the end of that meeting, assuming we complete it and commit to counseling. That is, I like to consider the first meeting as a sort of trial period so that you have the freedom to opt-out if you decide I may not be the best fit for your needs.
Once we begin counseling I bill $125 per 50-minute session, also payable at the time of the session. Depending on my client load and your circumstances we may be able to negotiate a lower fee, within reason. I'm frustrated myself at the state of health care costs so I'm uncomfortable being a part of that problem. That said, please understand that running a practice is expensive and I only have limited room to negotiate.
Like many practitioners today I’m not currently a provider for any health insurance companies. I know this is frustrating for many potential clients so I want to apologize and explain why this is so common. In a nutshell, it’s simply not cost effective for an independent, private practitioner like myself who does not employ support staff. Applying for insurance panels can require an extraordinary amount of work and time. Once accepted, filing for reimbursement can also require an inordinate amount of effort, and many companies will not even pay reasonable portions of psychologists‘ fees in the first place, leaving the client with much (or most) of the bill anyway.
Otherwise, of course I’m willing to provide documentation that you may need to file for reimbursement as an out-of-network provider for your insurance company.
I can receive payment via cash, check, or debit/credit card.
